Cool Hunt- Instagram Socialmatic Camera

The Instagram Socialmatic Camera is an example of life imitating art imitating life. Months ago this was hailed as just a concept of ADR Studio and Antonio De Rosa, the brainchild behind the design of the iPhone 5, rather than an actual product. But with news of the first prototype being released the end of this year and a soft release date of Mid-2013 the Instagram Socialmatic Camera is coming to life.

Users should be able to print their shots directly from the camera, a la Polaroid, by using the camera's built-in ink-jet printer and paper tray. The printed photos would feature a QR code that would allow other Socialmatic users to follow the photographer simply by pointing their gadgets at the code. The photos would also sport a Post-It-like adhesive strip that would let people deface the brick-and-mortar world.

Since Instragram's popularity is all the rage right now I'm sure this camera will sell like hot cakes if the price point is somewhat reasonable. But with consumer's ADD like attention span for all things social media ADR better put a rush on this delivery before we have all moved on to the newest version of the next Instagram.

Beauty in a Box- So Many to Choose So Little Time

We'd all like Christmas to come once a month and with beauty box subscriptions that wish is now a reality. These subscription boxes are monthly deliveries of new, trial-sized, different beauty products. The whole idea behind the boxes is a try-before-you-buy approach with an option to purchase the full-sized products if you fall in love. Not to mention you'll suddenly have a great stash of travel toiletries that don't say Hilton Hotel on them.

Riding on the coattails of the über-popular Birchbox phenomenon, a plethora of  new services will deliver goodies to your door on a monthly basis. Here's a handful of the most popular subscriptions that will help you decipher which one is best for you.

To: The Trend-Obsessed
From: Beauty Army

Beauty Army lets you test drive a wide range of brands, while allowing you to stay in control of the products you receive by letting you pick up to six samples of your choosing, from makeup to skin-care products and tools of the trade. Curated by industry super powers like Jon Hennessey, Orlando Santiago, Kimberly Bosso, and Victoria Stiles. These treasures are available to you for $12 per month.

To: The Beauty Newbie on a Budget
From: Birchbox

Birchbox is the gateway too all beauty box subscriptions. If you're trying to get the feel of what products work best for you or what you even like in certain products- Birchbox, the pioneer of it all, is still your best bet. You'll receive four to five samples fun and fair priced items each month- brands have included Nars, Kiehl's, and Ojon. $10 per month.

To: The Green Girl
From: Blissmo Box

If you're a Whole Foods groupie or someone just looking to greenify your beauty routine opt for a subscription to Blissmo. It is an eco-friendly option that provides you with off-the-radar products that are one of the following: sustainable, people and community positive, low chemical, and affordable. Each month subscribers and choose to receive four to five full- and trial- size products with a theme of either food, beauty or seasonal. A little pricey compared to the others at $19 per month plus shipping.

To: The Well Traveled
From: Glossy Box

Got an insatiable obsession with luxurious impossible to find in the States beauty brands? Splurge on Glossybox, which personalizes each delivery based on your beauty profile. Combining high quality international beauty brands (Amore Pacific, Burberry Beauty, and Phyto Paris, to name a few) with luxury travel-size products. Glossybox kind of bends the 'subscription box' rules a little, because it sells out. You've got to be on your toes (or signed up for the Glossybox newsletter), to know when to purchase it; it will not just come automatically.$21 per month.

To: The Eco-Conscious
From: GoodeBox

Have a phobia of smearing something on your face you can't pronounce? You won't have to worry about that with Goodebox, they focus on 'healthy beauty' and only use products that have a conscience. The products are concerned with utilizing natural ingredients and shying away from the chemical world. Anyone willing to try truly off-the-radar products and all-natural beauty remedies will have no problem diving into Goodebox — and think of all the legwork that $16 per month will save you.

To: The Fitness Maven

Unless you're an organic food-e, Whole Foods can leave you feeling overwhelmed with its overload of healthy snacks and products. Want someone to take the hard work out of selecting new things to try? I suggest you sign up for KlutchClub, which sends a sampling of specialty snack bars, vitamin supplements, skin-care products, and healthy cooking essentials that can put a little pep in your work out step. Also included: gift cards and certificates for downloadable online classes- some are substantial enough in denomination to pay for the box. I thought the $18 price tag was a little steep (the price goes down with higher-commitment subscriptions), but when you consider what's in here it's not so bad.

Gogo gadget-Invisible bike helmets-Hövding

Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin have successfully turned ugly, uncomfortable but the always necessary bike helmets into a fashion accessory. These helmets look like they belong on a F/W 2012/2013 McQueen runway- but alas they here to protect our melons!

Introducing the Hövding, a collar for bicyclists worn around the neck. Inside the collar is a folded up airbag that only deploys if you happen to be in an accident. The airbag is shaped like a hood, surrounding and protecting the bicyclist's head (pictured above). The trigger mechanism is controlled by sensors which pick up the abnormal movements of a bicyclist in an accident. The airbag is comprised of an über strong nylon fabric that will not rip when  on asphalt.

The collar is made of a waterproof material, but cannot be machine washed. The wow factor here (besides the obvious) is the shell that surrounds the collar-it enables you to change the look of the Hövding depending on what you're wearing that particular day. There are an endless amount of possibilities here; turning the Hövding into an accessory!

The collar is charged via USB! I'm totally gaga for this gadget. Below is the collar during normal wear and a video about the inventors and an unbelievable demo. Their current price point is $597.

Street Art- The Kissing Sailor

I am a big fan of street art...especially when it's around my proverbial backyard (NYC). I love Eduardo Kobra's mural found right on the Highline. Kobra's painting is a rendition of Albert Eisensteadt's famous photograph, taken August 14, 1945 at the V-J celebration in Times Square. The use of color here is genius! If you want to see more of Kobra's work check it out here

Below is another interpretation of the Kissing Sailor. I took this photograph during my last visit to San Diego. This one was a 25-foot statue located on the waterfront site near the USS Midway Museum- the San Diegoans call it the "Unconditional Surrender".

This post is dedicated to my awesome sister! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Gogo Gadget- Monster Diamond Tears Edge Head Phones

I love these eye-catching and admittedly flashy Monster- Diamond Tears Edge headphones. It's like headphones + haute couture!  These headphones are inspired by songwriter/producer/actor JYP. He is the asian sensation of music production and is the creative mind behind forty-eight #1 hits in eight different countries. I cannot speak to the comfort or clarity of sound of these headphones because I do not own them yet. I am hoping that the sound is diamond level clear and can live up to the multi-faceted jewel like aesthetic- especially for $350.

We shall see....I'll be sure to report back as soon as I can get my hands on a pair!

Give Em' Lip- Coveting Color

Kick Ass Women- Nike "Voices" Commercial

So I'm fresh off watching the London 2012 Olympic women's soccer final between the U.S.A. and Japan. Needless to say, I'm ecstatic about their 2-1 win to the team that beat them in last year's World Cup, 3-1 in penalty kicks. Like any recipe for success it took these women; resilience, hard work, and sheer determination to win today. Redemption for their loss was their motivation and hell if they didn't silence the doubters, albeit eloquently. Under the tutelage of Pia Sundhage, this team is a class act that plays wonderfully as a unit- sacrificing self for team. Whether it was Carli Lloyd coming off of the bench to score two goals or Megan Rapinoe getting substituted in the last minutes of the game- this team did no complaining about how they needed to get to gold. What does this win really mean for soccer and more importantly women's soccer/athletics?

Nike has realized the barriers that this team (along with countless other female athletes) have broke through, illustrated in their "Voices" commercial below. In this Olympics alone the United States National Women's Team (USNWT) made history even before reaching the finals by being the first women's team to play a match at Old Trafford-where Manchester United play. The final game with Japan set a new attendance record of 80,000 spectators! With whispers of an all women's professional league in the works in the U.S. and what that will mean for endorsements, fame, and potential salaries this win came right on time. Thanks to these sports heroes of football the seeds of a dream have been planted in so many young girls. Congratulations USNWT!

Bag Lady- Backpack or satchel?

If color is done correctly, I'm an advocate. Living in the city a purse only serves so many uses. If you're going to be out all day and need a change of shoes or a little more room for the things you picked up while in the Village (did you think I'd say SOHO?) you need more room. Instead of  schlepping around  your traditional purse and shopping bags why not go for something that makes a statement-overly priced handbags only say that you paid too much for something well crafted. Granted, I appreciate luxurious well crafted items but for 98% of us Hermes and Chanel bags are simply not an option.

Above Spanish designer and one-time Carolina Herrera collaborator Stella Rittwagen provides us with quality hand craftmanship for both work and play. Clean shape and bold color make me a fan. Check them out here....affordable compared to the aforementioned at $219.

What girl can't appreciate sparkle? I get jealous that men are often toting these stylish carryalls all over town - J. Crew has welcomed a new addition to their irresistible glam glitter collection- the glitter backpack! And for $88 we love the deal.

Strada- "Bike Out Loud"

Strada custom bikes reflects the growing fixed gear cycling culture in NYC. I stopped by the shop Sunday afternoon and was in awe of the system the people behind this store have created. One of the owners- Cory was there (I love hands-on owners) and patiently waited on customers and took the time to explain to me (a cycling virgin) how this all works. Your bike can easily reflect your personality since you are able to customize every component of this bike, there are countless amounts of color combination possibilities. And that's not all, given they have everything in stock you can order and receive your bike with same day service! Or if you order online there is free shipping. So a one of a kind bad ass bike for $449?! Not bad at all. Check them out here.

Louis Vuitton x Yasiin Bey- "Core Values" Campaign

In the following videos Yasiin Bey pays homage to "The Greatest"- the legendary Muhammad Ali. Not many emcees have been able to successfully transcend hip-hip culture and find a relevant role in the high-fashion industry. Bey does so seamlessly and so he has been tapped by Vuitton and Stuart McIntyre, director. Vuitton seeks to highlight their association with the art of travel through the campaign, which features graphic art, spoken word, and fashion to depict a riveting image of Muhammad Ali’s career over time. In the “Dream” and “Word” videos, Bey recites Ali’s most famous taunts and brags in a similar bold and powerful manner. Bey performs the spoken word while Niels Shoe Meulman, graphic designer, uses a broom to paint the titles on the ring floor in calligraphy style letters.
